The Rio Negro-based company is born with the purpose of favoring regional development through the provision of technology. ALTEC‘s first members are.
The result of this initiative is the manufacturing and commercialization of the PC100, the first computer to be fully designed and manufactured in Argentina. This process continued with the second generation of PC, the 150, exported in 1990 to the United States.
By 1991, they implement the automation of games of chance for the Río Negro, La Rioja, Neuquén, Tierra del Fuego, Corrientes and Catamarca lotteries. At the same time, they provide IT services and support for ANSES, the Foreign Trade Secretariat, the National Commission of Communications and the Supreme Court of Argentina.
In 1994, it successfully launches in Bahía Blanca, and in the following 5 years, they deploy the system in the cities of San Carlos de Bariloche, La Rioja and Neuquén. Then, the system reaches a peak in 2005, with the first export of parking meters to Galicia, Spain, to carry out a first trial of the metered parking system in the cities of Ponteareas and Cangas.
ALTEC takes charge of the Financial Administration and Control System, under the concept of “information superhighway“ that came with the new century. This entailed a package of additional solutions, such as the management of general processes, files and purchases in the field of provincial public administration.
ALTEC manages to highlight the value of their capabilities for technological conception and development. The IPP soon became a hybrid network of data transport through fiber optic, satellite, telephone, and wireless links that connected 180 connectivity points in 34 cities in Río Negro. With a global investment of close to one million dollars, the IPP also offered real-time information exchange of data and processes, Internet access, electronic messaging, and Internet protocol-based telephone service. The deployment of the IPP meant to Río Negro the compilation, centralization, monitoring, and safekeeping of the province universe computer data.
Carried out under the supervision of the Province Electoral Court, the E-VOTO system is put to the test, through its electronic ballot boxes, in the Río Negro Participatory Budget election, the Santa Fe Participatory Budget election, the San Antonio Oeste, Dina Huapi and Lamarque municipal elections, the Votobit International Congress, the Forum of Provincial Electoral Courts, and in different elections in student unions, exhibits and expositions.
Initially intended to provide climatological information in urban centers, beaches or adventure tourism destinations, the evolution of this product will yield, by 2017, a modern self-help terminal with satellite connection that will provide free Wi-Fi Internet to any nearby mobile device, and offer a comprehensive menu of tourist information through its 32‘ screen.
Created by the government of the province of Río Negro for the research, development, and provision of state-of-the-art technology, ALTEC S.E. expands the reach of its activities to a national level, undertaking the development and the application of technological solutions in other provinces of the country.
Faced with the need to address several security issues, the provincial government requests ALTEC the development and provision of technology for a comprehensive alert system to link Monitoring centers in coordination with different security services (Police, Fire Department, Civil Defense, Public Health and others), optimizing the resources to provide immediate response.
The new E-Voto system incorporates an easy-to-transport ergonomic case, a new user interface, intuitive design software, electronic ballot count and paper backup. It also adds a 19‘ screen, RFID card, thermal printing and voice-guided operating system for visually impaired people.
With the development of a network of 40 satellite accesses and the inter-connection with the fiber optic national network, ALTEC placed Río Negro among the first Argentine provinces to be fully connected, providing its inhabitants with remote access to high-complexity health centers, virtual classrooms, and the administration of justice, among other services provided by the State.
The new system provides the users with multiple ways to interact, allowing them to register their parking from an App installed in their cell phone, a web site accessible from mobile devices, or modern digital parking meters operable via a RFID card and connected through a long-range, low-consumption network.
Today, several administrative entities and 141 public schools in Río Negro (in Bariloche, Viedma and El Bolsón) have a high-quality Internet connection.
